Award Winning Aged Care at Gisborne Oaks
In 2015 Gisborne Oaks won the LASA excellence small provider award. LASA is the peak industry body for aged care in Victoria. This great achievement reflects the high standard of care and compassion provided to residents and clients by our wonderful staff. Our Aged Care facility offers a wide range of Residential Aged Care accommodation which provides specialised care, support and personal attention for residents and their families.
Our Nursing Home and Gisborne Aged Care
It is the general care we provide residents at the Oaks which stands us apart. Our culture of welfare over profit is evident in our staffing arrangements.
Unlike many aged care facilities our Nurses are the cornerstone to our clinical care and The Oaks employs more qualified nurses on staff and there is a Registered Nurse on duty 24 hours a day every day. That is a great comfort to our residents and their families.
In 2014, The Oaks strengthened its nursing care by introducing a Graduate Nurse Program (GNP), designed to attract recent graduate nurses to Gisborne.
Being part of Macedon Ranges Health means that residents at The Oaks have allied health practitioners on call such as our physiotherapist, dietician and podiatrist.
A care coordinator is assigned to each resident and they play a vital role to ensure that resident’s welfare is effectively monitored.
Dining at The Oaks
Our meals also set us apart from other facilities for all the right reasons. All home style meals are cooked on site so there is more opportunity for flexibility but more importantly residents have input to the menu.
Continuous Improvements at Our Gisborne Nursing Home
In 2015 the Macedon Ranges Health Centre was developed across the road from the Oaks which provides residents to health care services such as physiotherapy, podiatry and dietetics at their doorstep. The Centre is also host to a Pharmacy and Neal Street Medical Clinic which is open seven days a week.
"My father was in The Oaks for a short time only. The care he received was excellent. He had the same nurse (male) looking after him rather than a different person every time I visited him. My father had chronic dementia, so to have the same person looking after his needs, who was incredibly patient and treated him with the utmost kindness and respect meant an enormous amount to me with regard to his care. The staff were always very welcoming and easy to talk to. When my father was finally at the end of his life I was telephoned straight away. Again the care and respect was first class. When my father died, I was contacted straight away. It was about 3.00 am and this gave me an opportunity to telephone my sister in England. I was so pleased with the way my father was treated and the respect I was shown that I went and saw the nursing staff and asked if there was anything they would like for their kitchen. They said they would like a coffee plunger. What a simple request and one I was very happy to give them as a gift from my father and I -- most appropriate from us as we both liked coffee. If every nursing home was run the way this nursing home is run, the employees who are employed at Aged Care Complaints together with the ombudsman would be out of a job."
